As neat as it seems to change skin cells into a heart cell, I have to wonder if in changing these cell types a cancer doesn’t develop. For instance, developing melanoma in the heart, or this group of cells differentiating back into skin cells within the heart.
Well actually you are right :) this is a major problem of induced pluripotent stem cell therapies [which is what this is]. But new techniques in transforming cells are looking at reducing this risk. None of the science is perfect yet and many many years off being used clinically.
